Tamsin Elliott & Tarek Elazhary

Stories in the Shavings Presents

Folk musician Tamsin Elliott’s critically-acclaimed collaboration with Egyptian oud player Tarek Elazhary explores the parallels and celebrates the idiosyncrasies of Egyptian Maqam music and English folk traditions. Their friendship and resulting duo album So Far We Have Come is a testament to the unifying power of music, and won them a place in The Guardian’s Top Ten Folk Albums of 2023, as well as a nomination for Best Group at the Songlines Music Awards.

Their work has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike, praised for its innovative blend of quartertone accordion, lever harp and oud. Hailed by The Observer as "a poised, atmospheric fusion delivered by two master players”, their music transcends borders, inviting listeners on a mesmerising journey through landscapes both familiar and foreign.

Through their collaboration, Tamsin and Tarek exemplify a future-facing generation, united in their aim to build new and authentic musical expressions that resonate across continents and cultures.

Welcome to Foxville

Story Jam.

Dark falls across our gritty city, and a shadow pads between the cars, under the street light. This place is their place. This time is their time. Do you dare to share it?  Welcome to Foxville.

Story Jam brings you old stories with sharp teeth and wild yowls -  stories about life thriving off the path and at the edges.

Expect fox-singing, grafitti-inciting and rubbish-rooting in this brand-new show, so clear your throats, roll up your sleeves and come out and play!

Stand-up storytellers Story Jam are back in Bristol, slamming down no-holds barred tales to make you want to rip up the rule book and riot!

Welcome to Foxville is the follow-up to Women Who Gave No F**ks, which has just finished it's second sell-out UK tour. We can't think of a livelier and more playful audience for them to share their next big adventure with.

Hedera

Bristol Tree Craft’s Songs in the Shavings Presents.

Hedera

Hedera is a new Bristol-based quintet of instrumentalists brought together by a desire to lean into the slower and more delicate side of European folk traditions. Their growing repertoire draws on French, English, Eastern European and Scandinavian music, with playful and inventive arrangements that reflect the diverse array of experience brought by members of the band: violinists Maisie Brett and Lulu Ruby Rose, clarinettist Isis Wolf-Light, Beth Roberts on double bass, and Tamsin Elliott on accordion and harp. Intrigued by the combination of strings and reeds that seems to lend itself to effortless arranging, they have also now begun to create original music together.

Doors Open at 7:00PM
Starts at 8:00PM

The bar will stay open for a jam session around the fire after the event, so (if you feel inclined) bring your instruments to join in the tunes!
