Bristol Tree Craft’s Stories in the Shavings Presents.

Tam Lin Retold

Created by Corinne Harragin and Nick Hart

13th June 2024

The ballad may be known as Tam Lin, but he’s only a part of it. Part sung, part told, this is a tale of poison, pluck and changing shape.

Described by audiences as ‘enthralling’ and ‘fresh and full of life’, Tam Lin Retold explores untold stories and unsung voices. Enchanting and sharp in equal measure, this is badass border balladry for the old and the new.

Corinne is a Bristol-based performance storyteller with mixed Irish/British heritage. She creates original work based on folktales, myths and legends viewed through a contemporary lens. She is committed to telling stories that re-centre marginalised voices and silenced histories. As well as engaging with traditional storytelling practices, she uses physical theatre, stand-up comedy & audience participation to create brand new storytelling performances for a modern audience.

Nick Hart is an award-winning singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work with English folk song is rapidly gaining him a reputation as one of the most acclaimed performers of his generation.

Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith

Bristol Tree Craft’s Stories in the Shavings Presents.

Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith

One of the most celebrated duos to have emerged onto the British folk and acoustic scene in recent years. Their combination of outstanding vocal work, sensitive instrumentation, and a powerful social conscience has brought them widespread critical acclaim.

The songs themselves are always given centre stage but they are brought to life with stunning musical arrangements and vocals. There is an integrity that shines through their performances and a common thread of political struggle, resistance, and justice.

Their third album, ‘Many a Thousand’ was released in September 2018 to widespread critical acclaim. It received 5 star reviews in Songlines Magazine, Froots Magazine, and the Morning Star. The Guardian described it as a ‘lovely, rousing collection of politically charged traditional ballads and originals’ and Folk Radio UK said ‘Aldridge and Goldsmith have created a record whose songs are immediate and politically necessary, and whose melodies will remain in the memory for years to come.’

"To be a great folk singer, you have to be a great storyteller, as Jimmy Aldridge and Sid Goldsmith are clearly aware. The duo are both fine singers and multi-instrumentalists."
